Job Description
BMO is currently sourcing for a Business Analyst to support delivery across commercial banking and capital markets.
This is a hybrid contract role in Toronto (2 days in office per week).
Role Overview
This is a general Business Analyst role working across both agile and waterfall projects, with stakeholder groups spanning commercial banking and capital markets. The focus is requirements gathering, SDLC discipline, planning, and day to day coordination with project managers and development and testing teams. The role also supports the delivery of enterprise Generative AI solutions, acting as the connective layer between business stakeholders, governance teams, and delivery partners, and may collaborate with a Technical Business Analyst on overlapping projects. Banking domain depth matters more here than AI exposure, and the emphasis stays on business value and risk management rather than technical build. This is a one year term starting November 1.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead discovery sessions with commercial banking and capital markets stakeholders to understand current-state processes, user journeys, and desired business outcomes
- Gather and document business and functional requirements, translating them into clear specifications that guide delivery
- Support planning and SDLC activities across both agile and waterfall projects, managing scope, priorities, and the requirements backlog in Jira
- Coordinate with project managers, development, and testing teams to confirm requirements are understood and expectations are managed
- Collaborate with the Technical Business Analyst on projects where business and technical scope overlap
- Define and support test scenarios from a business validation perspective, coordinate user acceptance testing, and secure business sign-off before release
- Drive governance alignment with risk, compliance, and Responsible AI stakeholders to keep solutions audit-ready, and lead release readiness activities
Must-Have Skills
- 10+ years in Business Analysis within complex enterprise environments
- Delivery experience across both agile and waterfall projects
- Requirements gathering and documentation, including translating business needs into functional specifications and user journeys
- Working knowledge of the SDLC, including planning and coordinating with project managers and development and testing teams
- Banking or financial services domain experience, with exposure to commercial banking or capital markets stakeholders
- Experience managing the full delivery lifecycle from a business perspective, covering requirements, stakeholder coordination, UAT, and release readiness
- Experience working in regulated environments with a solid grasp of risk, compliance, and governance considerations
Nice to Have Skills
- Experience with Jira for backlog and delivery management
Ideal Candidate
- Banking domain depth, which is prioritized over AI exposure since GenAI knowledge is additive rather than a hard requirement
- Experience supporting stakeholder groups across two or more lines of business within a bank
- Comfort moving between agile and waterfall delivery models on concurrent projects
- A resume that evidences specific programs delivered and measurable outcomes rather than tool and buzzword lists
