Power BI Developer

Job Description

BMO is currently sourcing for an Power BI Developer.
This is an onsite contract role in Toronto (2 days in office per week).

Role Overview:
The Power BI Developer supports complex information systems by analyzing business and user needs to develop or modify existing systems. This role involves gathering detailed business requirements, recommending solutions, and ensuring system quality through testing and documentation. The position contributes to optimizing system performance and enhancing business processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate detailed business requirements and track business systems issues under supervision.
• Research and document sponsor and stakeholder needs using project lifecycle methodologies and modeling techniques.
• Estimate activities for requirements gathering and acceptance testing to improve accuracy over time.
• Recommend business solutions that satisfy stakeholder needs and explore value-add options for clients.
• Prepare end user documentation and training materials as needed.
• Execute and document test plans, including unit and integration testing, to ensure system quality.
• Troubleshoot system problems and maintain systems to optimize performance.
• Document system changes and updates thoroughly.

Must-Have Skills:

• Strong hands-on experience with Power BI development.
• Experience building Power BI dashboards, reports, and data visualizations.
• Experience with Power BI data integration and data modeling.
• Experience working with complex or enterprise-level Power BI reporting.
• Strong Excel skills and experience working with large datasets and spreadsheets.
• Experience coordinating projects, teams, or multiple stakeholders.
• Experience working across multiple business teams.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Familiarity with additional data and reporting tools.

Nice to Have Skills:

• Experience with reporting tools and requirements gathering methodologies.
• Familiarity with project lifecycle methodologies.
• Experience preparing training materials and end user documentation.

Ideal Candidate:

• Demonstrated ability to resolve minor conflicts and issues prior to escalation.
• Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
• Experience in executing and documenting test plans for quality assurance.
• Organized and detail-oriented with a focus on teamwork and cooperation.
