BMO is currently sourcing for a Cyber Security Analyst. This is a contract role with a hybrid work model in Toronto (exact days in office per week to be confirmed).
Role Overview
The Cyber Security Analyst will serve as the first line of defense in identifying and responding to security threats across BMO’s global infrastructure. The role involves monitoring security systems, triaging incidents, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to protect digital assets. Operating within a global 24/7/365 environment, this position aims to continuously improve operational effectiveness and reduce cyber risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor and investigate security events using case management and SIEM tools.
- Analyze data from multiple sources to identify potential security threats, vulnerabilities, and malicious activity patterns.
- Provide recommendations to enhance security monitoring and detection capabilities.
- Triage and investigate security incidents, classifying them by severity and acting as a first responder.
- Maintain detailed records of security investigations and triage procedures.
- Collaborate with security teams and stakeholders to escalate and manage incidents effectively.
- Develop and update documentation, activity reports, and procedures related to security operations.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and capability strengthening within the Cyber Security organization.
- Stay current with industry trends and participate in professional development activities.
Must-Have Skills
- Experience with SIEM platforms such as Splunk or QRadar.
- Familiarity with scripting and coding languages like Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Understanding of the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
- Knowledge of cloud security environments including AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of information security support, operations concepts, and technologies.
Nice to Have Skills
- Information security certifications from recognized institutions such as (ISC)², ISACA, or SANS.
- Experience in Identity & Access Management, Vulnerability and Configuration Management, Threat Intelligence, IT operations, Certification & Key Management, Security Platform Administration, or Security Incident Response.
Ideal Candidate
- Up to 4 years of relevant experience in information security or systems and computer operations.
- Experience working in a global, follow-the-sun security operations environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise judgment within established guidelines.
- Interest in career growth opportunities within Incident Response, Threat Intelligence, or Financial Crimes Units.
