Communications Specialist - Senior

Job Description

BMO is currently sourcing for a Communications Specialist - Senior. This is a hybrid contract role in Toronto (1-2 days in office per week).

Role Overview:
The Communications Specialist - Senior supports the technology department responsible for B2B Banking & Credit Technology systems. The role involves crafting clear, concise communications that translate technical information for diverse audiences, managing communication schedules, and supporting leadership messaging. This position plays a key role in bridging technology and business through effective communication strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build content from multiple input sources to create clear, engaging written materials.
• Elicit and translate technical and business information into easily consumable communications for non-technical audiences.
• Use established communication channels and templates to deliver consistent messaging.
• Provide drafting, editing, and message refinement support under the direction of the communications lead.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support execution of the communications schedule by coordinating and tracking recurring and ad hoc communications.
• Develop presentations, newsletters, leadership updates, and other communication deliverables as required.

Must-Have Skills:

• 5-7 years of relevant experience in internal or technology communications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills tailored to various audiences.
• Proficiency in MS Office products, especially Outlook, MS Teams, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to translate technical terminology into customer-friendly language.
• Experience managing multiple stakeholders, timelines, and communication channels.
• Post-secondary degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have Skills:

• Knowledge of technology concepts such as application development, technology migrations, and cloud capabilities.
• Familiarity with industry trends in technology and financial institutions.
• Skill in storytelling to highlight technology value and impact.
• Experience with infographics and presentation formatting.

Ideal Candidate:

• Experience supporting leadership updates, newsletters, and internal announcements.
• Ability to work independently on complex communication tasks and unique situations.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-up discipline.
• Exposure to multiple business groups and ability to act as a bridge between technology and business.
